HOYO

The Home Of Your Own (HOYO) Program is committed to making home ownership a reality for people with disabilities.  Through HOYO, disability advocacy organizations, government housing agencies, realtors, private lenders and others join forces to help people with disabilities turn what once was the impossible dream of owning a home into a dream come true.
Donate now - $2,000 makes the dream of home ownership a reality for a person with a disability.

Homeownership is as desirable for people with disabilities as it is for anyone else in America, yet it is estimated that less than one percent of Americans with disabilities are homeowners versus sixty-six percent of those without disabilities. There are many financial, attitudinal and physical barriers to homeownership for people with disabilities, yet homeownership is attainable for them including those on fixed incomes with Social Security and for those who work.

Through the Home of Your Own program, United Cerebral Palsy is working to make homeownership a reality.  Currently through the Home of Your Own program, United Cerebral Palsy is closing on 12 – 24 homes per year for individuals with disabilities who are low income and who are first time homebuyers.

SUCCESS STORY
The social change achieved may best be expressed by one of our success stories.   JT Templeton and Karen Greebon do not waste words when it comes to describing what they like about homeownership. With the Home of Your Own Program's assistance, they moved into their very own home. They are quick to point out the features that accommodate their two-wheelchair family: automatic doors, a huge roll-in shower and a great deck and ramp leading to their back yard. They appreciate these things and show them off with great pride. But what they appreciate most about their home is the independence, freedom and privacy it allows. These are important issues to JT and Karen, both of whom have personal experience with life in institutions. JT spent more than 30 years as a resident of a state school. Karen lived in a nursing home for a dozen years. In those days, neither imagined they would ever live independently, much less join the ranks of our nation's homeowners. *In memory of Karen, who recently passed away but who left a legacy of advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities.
