Out in the Field

The UCP Adult Program's "Quality of Life" services is in place to ensure that adults with disabilities in Houston do not miss out on the opportunity to socialize and take in the many entertaining things to do here. Recently the program has had a boon to their schedule thanks to some great supporting organizations!

AARP, which has generously supported UCP's Katrina relief efforts, sponsored a trip to the Houston Zoo with a brown bag lunch.   Pat Baker and Oscar Luna were among the 11 AARP volunteers who have become great friends of the agency.

ExxonMobil generously funds paid internships at area non-profits for outstanding young people interested in contributing to their community.  Some of the ExxonMobil interns and Volunteer Houston hosted a trip to the Museum of Natural Science in June attended by 24 volunteers and 12 adults with disabilities.

Clients in the program also attended United Cerebral Palsy's Classy Chassis car show in June and really enjoyed the cars, entertainment and food.

Chapelwood United Methodist Church sponsored an outing to the Museum of Fine Arts followed by lunch.  Ron Webster, a local attorney, was a first-time volunteer for the program at this event.  He has since become very involved with the program and is a regular volunteer now with the Adult Program bowling bunch on Saturdays.  Chapelwood has also generously granted $5,000 to the Adult Program to help cover its operating costs.

A huge thanks to all of those volunteers and organizations making this a great summer for the Adult Program.
